Each year since 2021 over 400 specially trained volunteers remove invasive mystery snails from our lakes.
These invasive snails are harmful. They spread disease, ruin swimming areas and cause an unsightly mess.
Each snail can breed up to 100 more snails annually to infect our lakes in future years.
This project is the 1st of its kind in Ontario and has been recognized around the world.
It is a result of collaboration between the C.H.A., the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (OFAH) Invasive Species Awareness Program and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF)
Each person who removes the snails needs to be licensed. Before this program that license could have taken up to 2 years to get and would only involve one person and one lake. Now each year 100’s of volunteers gets the needed training and license to help protect our lakes.
