Protect Your Lake

In this section, you will find the resources you need to protect your lake for generations to come through improving and maintingin the health of your septic system, the health of your shoreline and ultimately the health of your lake.
The two highest priority areas where all of us can actually have an impact on lake health are

  1. Keeping our septic systems operating properly
    • For every drop of water that enters your system a drop comes out
      • The water that comes out then makes its way into the water table ( drinking water) and into our lakes
      • Literally there is a lot more to this than meets the eye
      • The leading degrader of our lakes is phosphorous – the leading source of this phosphorous is our septic systems
        • A system that is operating well will pollute less
        • A well-operating system will also keep pollutants such as E.coli etc. out of the lake
  2. Protecting and renaturalizing our shorelines
    • A minimum of 75% of the shoreline of your lake needs to be natural or renaturalized to just maintain lake health as it is –
      • At less than 75% your lake is degrading
    • Natural shorelines do so much for our lakes
      • Filter pollutants such as phosphorous before it can enter and harm our lakes
      • Provide habitat for the things we love
      • 80-90% of all life on the lakes depends on natural shorelines at some point during their lives

So take your time and peruse thse section for videos, fact sheets, interesting presentations and much more.
If you think there's anything missing, please let us know!
